On Friday 17th March Liverpool’s infamous music and theatre venue The Olympia, will play host to this year’s VO5 NME Awards Tour.
On the bill this year are Stockport’s favourite Blossoms, who in 2016 had a blisteringly successful year after the release of their number one, self-titled, debut album.
Alongside them will be the terrifyingly good CABBAGE who are also riding the crest of a wave after the release of their debut album, ‘Young, Dumb And Full Of…’ (Skeleton Key Records).
Young singer songwriter Rory Wynne is also set to perform and in the opinions of North West Now, it’s probably one of the best NME Awards Tour line ups we’ve seen for a while.
Last year’s tour, displayed the talents of new comers Rat Boy and Bugzy Malone, but fell on deaf ears for many regulars of the annual series. Veterans Bloc Party and the experienced sibling duo of Drenge still wasn’t enough for some, with the tour getting slammed by some fans.
This year however we can safely, yet surprisingly, say that the NME should be proud to attach its name to this tour and lineup.
Rory Wynne offers some solid song writing via his slick, in some ways very English, style whilst CABBAGE offer some vomit inducing punk, with a poet like edge and an on stage performance that famously takes its toll.
After the caress of Wynne and carnage from CABBAGE, Blossoms are the perfect tonic to end a versatile evening that shows how diverse, interesting and ultimately good the UK music scene still is.
